The Best Gins to Serve with a Cucumber Garnish

Which gins should you serve with cucumber? For fans of our Gin and Tonic Garnish Guide, you’ll know that garnishing is all about personal choice and creating your preferred flavour profile. We’re often asked ‘what is the best gin with cucumber?’ – So here are our recommendations for some ‘must try’ gins that work beautifully in a gin and tonic with a cucumber garnish.
Why Use a Cucumber Garnish?
Adding cucumber to your gin and tonic brings a fresh, mellow and sometimes floral or sweet character, and so it typically harmonises with fresh, smooth and summery gins.

Mermaid Gin & Cucumber

Since its relaunch in 2019, Mermaid Gin has become one of the most desired gins due to the stunning bottle and the equally beautiful gin inside it. The gin was originally launched in 2015 by Isle of Wight Distillery, based at Rosemary Vineyard in Ryde, and it includes 3 local botanicals from the Isle Wight – rock samphire, hops and elderflower.

Boxer Gin & Cucumber

Boxer Gin is a vibrant gin that features prominent juniper, bold citrus flavours (including begamot, lemon and orange) and a hum of well-balanced warm spice. The result is a favourful, fresh and crisp gin and tonic which lends itself perfectly to a cucumber garnish if you don’t happen to have some bergamot to hand!

Hendrick’s Gin & Cucumber

Many people ask us ‘should you serve Hendrick’s Gin with cucumber?’. Hendrick’s was one of the first mainstream gins to successfully diversify garnishing from the traditional lemon or lime slice.

The Gin Guide’s Editor, Paul Jackson, suggests his favourite Hendrick’s Gin servings as being garnished with a slice of lime or with cucumber and black peppercorns.

Knut Hansen Dry Gin & Cucumber

Knut Hansen Gin honours the stories, explorations and countless adventures of legendary Germany sailor Knut Hansen. Distilled at Hamburg Distillery with 14 botanicals including cucumber, sweet basil and apple, it makes for a wonderful pairing with a cucumber garnish.

Martin Miller’s Gin & Cucumber

Martin Miller’s Gin is a smooth, fresh and summery gin that features cucumber distillate as a botanical. The gin is shipped to Iceland where they add the freshest glacial water and the cucumber distillate before shipping the gin back to the UK. Garnish Martin Miller’s Gin with a slice of cucumber to really bring out the fresh character of the gin. Or experiment with a strawberry and black pepper garnish.
